One of the best travel tips I ever got was the advice of my South African friend. Try to reset set your body clock to the time zone you're going to as soon you get on the plane. By resetting your watch and trying to eat and sleep according to your destination's local time you can avoid most of the evilness which is jet lag.
And some other tips I've picked up along the way have also come in useful.
- Drinking plenty of water and eating healthy food. The healthier your body, the easier you'll be able to adapt to your new time.
- Supposedly daytime naps are OK, but it's best to keep them to 30 minutes or you can disrupt your sleeping pattern.
- Start getting ready for travel a few days before by getting up and going to bed earlier (if you're travelling east), or later (if going west).
Hopefully some of these tips might make your next long-haul trip a bit more enjoyable. Or maybe you have you got some other tips up your well-travelled sleeve? If so, would love to hear how you get over jet lag.

good tips - I really needed them for last week when I returned home on an overnight flight (never want to do one of those again!) but I'll keep these bookmarked for next time :) hope you had a great trip!
ReplyDeleteI did! Stay tuned for some photos soon!

Do you have any tips for baby-being-awake-all-night-and-all-day lag? It's been a long day!

I wish I had read this before Christmas! We had terrible jet lag on the way home from Canada. We power napped for 20 mins at a time and tried to stay awake.
ReplyDeleteGreat times! I know for me coming back from Italy was terrible. I would end up sleeping half the day for the first week. Next time I travel I'll have to remember some of these tips :)
