Live More Create More | 3 tips on living more creatively

3 tips on living more creatively via Randomly Happy
Last week I shared my shamefully poor record of achieving my aims for living a more creative life (a bit fat zero for those of you counting). So I put the call out for advice, and got some great ideas on how to live a more creative life. Here are the highlights.

1) Carry a notebook

The lovely Hanna from Pearls & Scissors keeps a notebook with her to jot down ideas. Use it for lists, ideas, or add a few pencils and you've got a handy drawing kit. A simple idea, but such an easy one. And who doesn't love carrying around a beautiful notebook?

2) Give yourself the time to be creative

Always so tricky, especially since we all live such busy lives. Rusty from Rusty Rambles suggested this lovely UK-based Twitter scheme that 'meets' every Thursday at 9pm to focus creative projects. I think it really is about making being creative a priority - even just for a few minutes.

3) See being creative as a treat

I loved the idea that Isabel from I Know had. She sees being creative as a treat, as a better alternative to more boring jobs (I hear that - I will do anything to get out of doing the dishes!). Let's take that further... what what if being creative was a treat in itself? A reward for a hard day's work, or as a way of doing something nice for yourself. Not only does this mean we'll see being creative as a real positive event, but it will stop it from being just another thing to add to a busy schedule. Win!

I definitely feel more inspired after reading through your insights. And can't wait to start putting them into practice. But what about you? Have you got any goals you're aiming for? Do any of these tips help?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

  1. Good tips (not that I'm biased on number 2, ahem!) I'm a big fan of carrying a notebook around as well, it's almost like an accessory! Hope you'll get a chance to join in with Creatives Unite soon, it looks like it's set to become a two hour thing before long too! x

  2. Really good ideas. Sometimes I try to switch off from being creative as I have to be so creative for my work but it never quite works out and it's often when I get my best ideas. So, I find having a note book handy always vital!

  5. I really need to be better about carrying a journal with me. It would definitely make me take the time to think out some ideas.
