Live More Create More | being mindful and disconnecting

On being mindful and disconnecting via Randomly Happy
I had meant to share with you a whole post on some exciting ways I have been meeting some of those Live More Create More goals I had set for myself. But the flu I came down with this week had other ideas.

So, instead, I thought I'd take a look at the whole idea of being more mindful. Michelle shared this really interesting article on 3 paths to living a more creative life on our Pinterest board which I thought was really interesting. And this particular part of the article really got me thinking:

"Our time is spent responding, reacting to others or absorbing, taking in new information. But we often lack the space, the time, the moment to integrate that knowledge, connect those dots, generate that creativity. Slowing down and disconnecting provides that space."

I know that sounds a bit hippy, but if you think of how much time we spend on the internet, in front of computers, talking on the phone, texting, it adds up to a lot. Or is that just me?

What if we spent a little more time letting ourselves soak information in? Could we be more creative if we took more time to disconnect from the distractions?

I'm not sure it's the whole answer, but this weekend, as busy as I am, I'm going to make time to disconnect and give myself some space to be mindful. Just like those two brave ladies, taking a dip when it's 10 degrees outside. Now that's got to be disconnecting!

  1. Yeah, you are so right. I have had days where taking it all in just becomes TOO much. (But I want to keep reading, because there is somethink one more article, one more video, one more distraction). I am trying to give myself some kind of a schedule (not strict but it's there) to allow myself time off the screens.... where we do other stuff (dance, draw, paint...)

  2. This is so true I think that we all get so worried we're going to miss out I'm we're not constantly online it has a negative effect on creativity. I'm definitely trying to step away from technology a bit more but its very hard. Love this post. X

  3. I think it does! I sort of succeeded at doing this last week, by focusing just on my creative growth. I used to spend a lot of time looking at other blogs and not my own content. I 'm starting to find a balance now :)

  4. I completely agree, and I am so interested in this topic. You might find this interview interesting, it's an hour-long talk about someone who took a long break from technology and came back with better ideas:

  5. This is a great article! I've recently been making an effort to disconnect and have offline time for a bit before I got to bed. I've been sleeping tons better & had a ton of really good ideas!
