Yesterday, these were just some sad strawberries at the market. Today, they’re kickin’ it with some basil, lemon and gin.
I even made my own simple syrup for these. Yup. That’s right. Check me out on a Friday night making my own simple syrup. I am living on the edge here.
And man, with this crazy weather, we needed something summery and cheerful to brighten up this gloomy Friday. Thank you little strawberries.
Strawberry Basil Gin and Tonics
per drink you will need
1 ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 ounce simple syrup
1 3/4 ounces gin
2 ounces tonic water
handful of basil leaves (you could use mint as well)
1 strawberry to garnish
Crush the strawberries in a glass with a fork. These strawberries were supremely ripe so this was pretty easy. You could use a pestle and mortar… but I only just thought of that. D’oh!
Muddle the rest of the ingredients together. Add ice.
Garnish with a strawberry and slurp away.
